Blue Crabs Top Patriots In Series-Finale

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (13-16, 51-47) defeated the Somerset Patriots (14-14, 56-42) 6-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Kyle Roller.

The Blue Crabs took the lead with a big five-run inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Ryan Wiggins (4) that made the score 5-1.

Southern Maryland added a run to the lead in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Edwin Garcia.

Drew Hayes (6-5) earned the win after he allowed just one unearned run over six innings of work. Will Oliver (4-3) yielded six runs over six and 1/3 innings to suffer the loss.

The 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Monday night with a 7:05 p.m. game against the York Revolution. The game features Star Wars Night with a special appearance by Darth Vader, R2D2, Stormtroopers, and more. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.

Applications to Rutgers Jump Nearly 10 Percent; Increase from Out-of-State Students

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Applications to Rutgers University this year increased 9.4 percent over last year, university President Robert Barchi told the Board of Governors at a meeting this week.
