NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Edison boys basketball team, in the midst of the program's most successful season in 17 years, rallied but came up short against top-seeded St. Joseph of Metuchen in the quarterfinal round of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament on Sunday.
Edison cut 14-point second-half deficit to three before losing, 67-61, at New Brunswick High School.
Abu Kaikai finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for ninth-seeded Edison (15-11), which led, 12-10, after a quarter. Christian Wantong scored 17 points and had five rebounds, and Paul Rago scored 14 points for the Eagles.
Luke Fresco scored 19 points to pace St. Joe's.
