EDISON, NJ -  The top six teams from each Central New Jersey group gathered at the Brunswick Zone at Route 1 for the Tournament of Champions Friday morning.

Leading the way for Group II was defending state champions South Plainfield, while Edison and East Brunswick were representing Groups III and IV.

The first place team from each of the four groups wins that group’s state crown and moves on to the semi-final, and overall state championship.

Lanasia Neal took command for South Plainfield rolling a three-game series of 674. Neal’s 245-pin fall from game two was one of the top five games of the tournament. Unfortunately for Neil, her solo performance was not enough for the South Plainfield Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers total pin fall of 2,495 left them sitting at third place in Group II.

East Brunswick was in second place in Group IV after the first two games, and it looked like if the Lady Bears were to keep its stride going, they could jump to first.

Sadly East Brunswick would not be able to capitalize, and dropped to third in Group IV with a combined total pin fall of 2,645.

The Edison Lady Eagles were flying high after rolling a 983 in Game two.

It looked like the Eagles might swoop its way into the final.

The Lady Eagles, however, dropped the ball in the third game, rolling only an 843 finishing fourth in Group III.

Brick Memorial represented Group IV in the semi-final match as the first seed, and played fourth seeded Manasquan.

Brick Township was second seed for Group III and played the third seeded Manchester Township from Group II in its semi-final match.

The semi-finals and finals were played “Baker” style with each team member throwing one frame of a game.

The Brick schools dominated the semi-finals, each taking its best of five matchup.

It was then down to a confrontation between them for the overall crown.

Brick Township edged out Memorial 234-232 in game one, while Memorial put on a strike show in the second game, stringing six together in a 269-148 win.

With the match tied, Township capitalized on an open Memorial seventh frame to claim the second game 214-195.

Memorial put up a good fight in the fourth game, but lost 195-162, giving the Township its second overall state crown in two consecutive years.
