WESTFIELD, NJ — Trader Joe’s fans expecting the store to reopen in Westfield as soon the shop can be rebuilt got a shock Thursday when word of a “news story” claiming the popular grocery chain planned to close all of its stores circulated on social media.

An article titled “Trader Joe’s to Close All Stores by 2017, Plans to Discontinue Products” claims that, in press release, Trader Joe’s announced it will be closing all of its locations by January 2017.

Read to the end and you’ll find that it's actually an early April Fool’s joke.

“If this shocking news hits you as hard as it hit me, fear not,” the faux article reads. “It’s merely April Fools’ time. Now go celebrate being a fool with your favorite cheap wine.”
