East Brunswick: Double Bus Accident on Route 18

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Helicopters flew over Route 18 this morning as the police and fire departments addressed a 2-bus collision on Route 18 South near the intersection of Eggers Street.

According to a report issued by the East Brunswick Police Department, a New Jersey Transit commuter bus, operated by Antonio Casado, 54,  of Elizabeth, stopped to pick up passengers at 8:52 am at the bus stop near the corner of Eggers Street and Route 18 South.  

The preliminary investigation showed that a Kensington Company school bus, operated by Yinny Perez, 45,  of Perth Amboy , was also traveling south on Route 18 when it struck the rear of the stopped NJ Transit bus. Kensington provides transportation services for Somerset, Middlesex, Union and Hunterdon County Educational Services Commissions as well as the Pingry School, Metuchen, and Edison schools.

Four NJ Transit passengers were treated for minor injuries and complaints of back, leg, and neck pain.  A child passenger on the Kensington bus suffered a broken leg and lacerations.  Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Paramedics, the East Brunswick Rescue Squad, and Atlantic Ambulance were on the scene to address passenger concerns.  Neither driver was injured in the collision.

East Brunswick Fire District 2 supported the activity at the scene of the accident.

The crash is currently under investigation by the East Brunswick Police Department Special Operations Division.  anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact Ptl. Anthony DeSantis of the EBPD at (732) 390-6969.
