EDISON, NJ – If you bought a Powerball lottery ticket at Deli Expressions on Woodbridge Avenue for Wednesday’s drawing, you better check it twice, it may be a $50,000 winner, according to state lottery officials.

In a press release Thursday, officials said that a single $50,000 ticket, matching four of the white balls and the Powerball, was sold at the deli for Wednesday night’s drawing and is the only winning large prize ticket in the state.

Some 29,730 New Jersey tickets won prizes between $2-$200, totaling $148,923, officials said.

Officials said $50,000 is a third-tier prize and that there were no winners for the top prize, which now rolls to $170 million for Saturday night’s drawing.

The winning numbers drawn Wednesday were; 05,10,24,56 and 61 with the red Powerball number of 12.

Officials said the multiplier number, which could make the winning New Jersey ticket worth $100,000 if that option were played, was 02.

“Congratulations to all of the lottery players who purchased winning tickets and to the retailers that sold them,” Lottery Executive Director Carole Hedinger said in the release. “I’d like to remind players to purchase their Powerball tickets with a winning attitude and add Power Play to the ticket purchase. Power Play doubles the second prize from $1 million to $2 million and multiplies all of the seven lower prize sets available in the game by the number drawn that evening. The jackpot prize is not multiplied.”

The winner has not yet come forward.

Store owner Sunny Patel, who runs the store with his wife, Vanita, said he was surprised to hear the winning ticket came from his store.

“This is my store and I really didn’t know (until now), Patel said. “Good luck to the winning person.”

Patel said that he and his wife have owned the store for the last three plus years, but that they don’t do a lot of lottery sales and this is the biggest prize won at the deli.

“We don’t sell a lot of lottery tickets,” Patel said. “I think this (winning ticket) will help boost lottery sales.”

The store itself will also get a financial prize for selling the winning ticket, according to the state, but Patel said he doesn’t know how much, or what he will use the money for.

Since it began in 1970, the state lottery has raised some $24 billion to support education and institutions in New Jersey, according to the agency.
