The Edison Arts Society (EAS) supports this question because the EAS operates under the philosophy that the quality of life in any community is enriched when there is an active community of the arts.  Each year the EAS holds a wide range of events including art concerts for the enrichment of our community.   We believe so completely in the arts and the quality of life the arts provides to individuals, our educational system and our community as a whole that we have awarded and will continue to award scholarships to our music, theatre, visual art, literary or instrument students in our high schools.

There are no free lunches, so I fear that there may be a small tax increase, but these tax dollars would certainly be well worth the joy and comfort music and the arts brings to so many people throughout their lifetime.

Shall the governing body of the County of Middlesex annually set aside and dedicate funding for the support of the Cultural Arts in Middlesex County, including development, restoration, improvement to and maintenance of cultural arts facilities, theaters and other arts venues, to encourage and provide support for quality arts education, to provide general support for the performing, presenting and visual arts within the County, and to recognize and preserve the history and heritage of Middlesex County, including recognizing and honoring our veterans, and annually appropriate that revenue for that purpose.

INTERPRETIVE STATEMENT

Approval of this proposition would authorize, but not bind, the governing body of the County of Middlesex to establish the "Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund" to be used exclusively for the development, restoration, improvement to and maintenance of cultural and arts facilities, theaters and other arts venues within Middlesex County and to encourage and support arts education for County residents through support of quality arts educations programs, including those sponsored and conducted through qualified nonprofit arts organizations. The "Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund" would also provide general support to projects and programs whose purpose is to recognize and preserve the history and heritage of Middlesex County, including recognizing and honoring our veterans. The Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund" would be funded by the County annually and dedicated exclusively for those purposes.
