Board of Education

Edison Board of Education Candidate Statement: Kiel Thoms

1. Why are you running for the Board of Education?

I am running to promote transparency between the board and the people of Edison. There is a groundswell of concern with regard to establishing clear and definitive thresholds for advanced placement of our children.  We need clear communication of qualifiers for such programs, as well as, to build on ensuring all of Edison’s special education needs programs do not stagnate, but continue to promote the potential of every child.

2. What do you hope to accomplish?

I am running for a seat on the Edison Board of Education as a voice for those who have no platform. I am running to bring new ideas and to represent the 08817 area code on the board.

Concerns need to be addressed regarding the need of developing our pre-school and kindergarten classes, while balancing the school budget. There is a need to address the matter of our the growth of our community and how that factors into the overcrowding in our school systems.

I will speak on the issues that are prevalent to parents and teachers to form a partnership between the two, and bridge the gap that is overdue. This will prove to be of benefit to our Edison children and their families.  I am humbly seeking your support and vote.

3. About Kiel Thoms

I am a Certified Nutritional Specialist and Personal Fitness Trainer as well as a Call Center Supervisor. I have worked in a business management capacity in the call center industry for 17 years and I have been engaged with nutrition and fitness for over 20 years.

4. Summary

As a concerned parent of two young boys who are currently attending Lindeneau Elementary School and one who is involved with the PTO, I and other parents feel the need to have a representative from our district.
