EDISON, NJ - The Edison Township Co-Op Hockey Team of players from Edison High School and J.P. Stevens looks to capitalize on the experience of seniors along with the young blood of new players for the 2014-2015 season.

This is the 2nd year as a Co-Op team between Edison and J.P. Stevens, after having separate varsity teams for 6 years. The Co-Op team finished the 2013-2014 season with a record 4 wins and 14 loses

Coach Berner’s outlook on upcoming season:

We graduated a dozen seniors from last year’s team, including our goalie and 3 of our top 4 scorers. However, we have had an influx of experienced hockey players, something that has not happened at Edison in quite some time.

Building around a solid young defense of Assistant Captains Mike Tutalo and Rob Distefano, along with Freshman Chance Berry, we look to cut down on mistakes in our zone. We have also have two potential long term goaltenders in Freshmen Parker Mackenna and Will Disano-Dominic.

Offensively, Chuck Youse and Captain Dan Nariane will lead us up front, with Dan Lesch and Tommy Wales also on the top lines. Polina Semenoff took a couple of years off from hockey, but has returned without missing a beat and will be a big help up front, as well, Freshman Tushar Khan has really impressed our staff in early season practices, with speed, hustle, and great hands, he will see some time on our tops lines I believe.

We have a whopping 12 players new to varsity this year, so we will have some bumps in the road, especially with our schedule the way it is the first couple of weeks, but I think we will surprise a lot of folks this year, and could contend for a state playoff spot when all is said and done…We have a long way to go to get where we want to be, but with our youth, the learning curve will be pretty steep, so I am hoping to make some big strides as a program this year.

Big games to watch:

Dayton on January 31, 2015 and February 28, 2015, great game last season, went down to the final shot.

Freehold/Raritan on January 13, 2015 and February 7, 2015, great game last year, two very similar in make-up squads.

Colonia January 10, 2015 and February 11, 2015, again 2 very similar in makeup teams, they may be a bit ahead of us again this year, but the games are always tight
