Edison, NJ – The Edison Public Library Foundation partnered with Horizon Blue Cross to host a seminar titled “Medicare 101” at the Edison Main Branch on Wednesday.

Bill Handerhan, from the Horizon Government Programs group led the seminar.  He discussed enrollment periods, plan selections, coverage, and costs. Attendees were able to ask questions during and after the seminar.

“With Horizon we offer these Medicare 101 sessions to really give people a good basic knowledge of Medicare, how it works, the rules that are around enrollment and all those different things just because people have so many situations in their lives they don’t know how it affects them personally,” said Mr. Handerhan.

The annual open enrollment period, when individuals can make changes to their coverage and enroll in a Medicare plan each year, runs from October 15 to December 7.

“By giving them general information and then offering our services individually on a more specific basis, we feel that really helps people make a decision whether they end up enrolling with Horizon or not, it's really not the point of what we do, we’re really just trying to educate,” said Mr. Handerhan.
