Edison: One Killed, Driver Charged With DWI After Car Hits Tree

EDISON, NJ – One 22-year-old township man is dead and another resident is charged with driving while intoxicated following a single-car crash Saturday morning, officials said.

According to police, Mandeep Singh, 21, of Edison was driving on Old Post Road near Preston Street with three people in his car when he veered off the road and hit a tree at 5:03 a.m., Saturday.

One of the passengers in the vehicle, identified as Joel Patrone, 22, also of Edison, was pronounced dead at Robert Wood University Hospital in New Brunswick at 5:54 a.m., police said.

An unidentified 22-year-old Edison woman, who was also a passenger in the car, and Singh, were both hospitalized following the crash, according to police.

Singh is listed in stable condition and the woman in good condition, police said.

An investigation into the accident determined that Singh was intoxicated at the time of the crash and charged him with driving while intoxicated and death by auto, police said.

Sgt. Michael Carter of the Edison Police Department and Detective Donald Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are still investigating the crash, police said.
