EDISON, NJ – The Municipal Council and The Edison Recreation Department is offering Winter Cricket Training for Edison’s children, ages 7-13, at the Woodbrook Elementary School. The training run on Fridays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., beginning January 18 and continuing through March 22, 2019. The cost is $10 per child. Proof of residency is required on the first day of class.
The program will cover all aspects of the game of cricket, from understanding the basic rules of cricket, to bowling, fielding and batting. The program aim to provide players with a better understanding of the game.
Council Vice President Ajay Patil said, “I have been a big proponent of this program. I appreciate the 2019 Winter Cricket Training and what it aims to do. Edison is a diverse community, and this is another example of the Township offering our residents a chance to explore different cultures and have unique experiences.”
Cricket has become a popular sport in Edison. In 2018, 65 organized teams played cricket in the township. The Falcon Cricket Club also launched a youth cricket league in cooperation with Edison Township which attracted over 400 children under the age of 12.
In September, the International Cricket Council (ICC) visited Woodrow Wilson Middle School to present the 2019 World Cup Trophy as part of the ICC World Cup Trophy Tour. Edison was one of 60 international destinations. The trophy is known as “the most coveted piece of silverware in world cricket.” At that event, Brian Lara, a former West Indies team captain, spoke with students to inspire cricket interest among them and to motivate them to keep playing.

I encourage our residents to take full advantage of the wonderful programs offered by the Department" said Mahesh Bhagia, who serves as Special Assistant to the Mayor.
Residents can sign up for the Winter Cricket Training program at www.EdisonNJ.org through Community Pass or deliver the registration form to the Recreation Department. The Recreation Department is open from Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
