Fatal Accident Shuts Down Portion Garden State Parkway in Cranford

CRANFORD, NJ - A fatal accident occurred Friday morning on the Garden State Parkway North at 6:03 a.m. at Exit 137, causing backups of more than 10 miles during rush hour.

"A single car, a Toyota sedan, went off roadway and struck a tree," Trooper Alejandro Goez of the New Jersey State Police said. "The male driver was pronounced dead on scene."

The name of the victim has not yet been released, as the NJ State Police are waiting on notification of the next of kin, according to Goez.

All lane closures were opened at 10 a.m. following the end on the investigation.
