Fatal Collision that Followed Edison PD Vehicle Pursuit into Plainfield Under Investigation

PLAINFIELD, NJ - A fatal collision that followed an Edison Police Department officer’s pursuit of a vehicle into Plainfield early Wednesday morning is under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Thomas K. Isenhour announced today.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Dem-Quan Royal of Plainfield.

Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, Plainfield Police Division patrol units were called to the 800 block of Woodland Avenue in Plainfield on a report of a motor vehicle crash. The body of Royal was found at that location, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation involving the Union County Homicide Task Force, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, Union County Police Department Fatal Accident Reconstruction Unit, and Plainfield Police Division revealed that Royal’s car struck a tree, killing him.
