Girls Basketball: Ridge Edges J.P. Stevens in Regular Season Finale

EDISON, NJ - Concluding the regular season by playing some of its best basketball all season, the Ridge girls hoop team rallied for a 55-53 victory over J.P. Stevens on Friday afternoon.

Ridge (10-16) has won three of its last four games heading into next week's Group 4 state tournament. J.P. Stevens finished its regular season with a 12-10 record.

J.P. Stevens led for more than three full quarters, but Ridge spent the middle quarters chipping away at the Hawks' lead and finally overtook the home team for the first time with 5:26 left when Chrissy Weyrauch sank a short jumper from the right block, was fouled on the shot and sank the free throw to complete the three-point play that gave the Red Devils a 45-43 lead.

Weyrauch also came up with the game-preserving defensive rebound when J.P. Stevens stole a pass at midcourt as time was winding down and missed a shot that would have tied the game.

Weyrauch finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Kristin Miscia scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Ridge.

Molly Yelencsics led J.P. Stevens with 16 points.
