ROXBURY, NJ - They came from all over North Jersey to show off their chromed-out, big V8s. By day's end, they'd raised big bucks for a sick boy.

The annual North Jersey Street Rod Association (NJSRA) Father's Day Rod Run took place under sunny skies at Horseshoe Lake Park in Roxbury on Sunday. The charity event drew about 1,300 spectators and raised "a little over" $15,000 on behalf of 9-year-old Dylan Flinchem of Sussex County, said NJSRA President Thomas Harvey.

The child is fighting a rare genetic terminal brain disease called metachromatic leukosdystrophy (MLD).

"It was great weather, which makes a great show," Harvey said. "All our members, and many volunteers, worked very hard to make this show a reality."

He said 330 cars were on display.

"It was a fun time and they had three times the number of people as last year," when it rained a bit on Father's Day, said auctioneer Dennis Cassidy, a Roxbury resident. He said the auction at this year's Rod Run raised about $1,700 for Flinchem.

"It was a fantastic day," Cassidy said. "It worked out very well and they were very pleased with the auction. I'm always looking for situations like this. If anybody needs help or is pushed against the wall, I will donate my services."
