People in our community can support assistance for victims of hurricanes and disasters, and for refugee families to become self-sufficient, while enjoying international cuisine and a vocal & instrumental concert. This International Dinner/Concert will be held at Willow Grove Presbyterian Church in Scotch Plains on Saturday, March 16, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.  All funds raised will be donated equally to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) and to Refugee Assistance Partners of NJ (RAP).

PDA has responded to people’s needs in crisis and after catastrophic events for many years, including after hurricanes like Sandy, Florence and Michael, fires in California, and the earthquake in Haiti. RAP is a group of local volunteers who greet and help refugee families from war-torn countries, who have been vetted and approved to resettle in Union County. RAP helps them furnish apartments, provides tutoring in ESL and Math, and assists them to become self sufficient with dignity through jobs and education, typically within six months.

The 4:30 concert features performances by the Chinese American Music Ensemble (CAME) Adult Chorus and Children’s Chorus, and by the Music From China Youth Orchestra. CAME is the only choral program in N.J. that offers choral training for children and adults at the same time and place. CAME enriches and broadens cultural horizons through music training and by providing a community service through concert performances. The Music From China Youth Orchestra has young musicians who perform on beautiful, traditional Chinese instruments, receiving year-round training, with annual concerts at major cultural and educational institutions.
