The proposed development on Somerset Street, with construction planned to begin this summer, will provide advanced treatments for cancer in a partnership between RWJBarnabas Health and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Cahill noted in the video that there are 53,000 cases of cancer diagnosed each year in New Jersey, with 16,000 deaths related to the disease.
"Cancer doesn't wait," Cahill said. "We can't either."
In the video, the mayor also addressed concerns about the proposed relocation of the Lincoln Annex School to 131 Jersey Ave. He said the brand-new school - at no cost to taxpayers - would be close to the homes of many students, would include 100 parking spaces and would include a playground for the students in grades 4-8.
