Tarantino, 29, lost his life in a three-car vehicle crash that occurred May 30 at 6:20 a.m. on Interstate Highway 78 in Bernards. The incident also claimed the life of another driver, and resulted in non-life threatening injuries to a third motorist.

South Brunswick Police put out a post on Twitter Tuesday expressing their condolances.

"Our thoughts and Prayers are with the family and friends of Summit Police Officer Matthew Tarentino who was killed early (Tuesday)," the tweet read.
