SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – Police and emergency management officials are warning residents that a coastal storm is on the way that could bring strong winds and up to two inches of rain through Monday night.

In a public alert, Sunday Morning, South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management Director Chief Raymond Hayducka and Township Manager Bernard Hvozdovic are issuing the second advisory for a storm expected to impact our region Sunday night and all day Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch and a Storm Watch for the community in advance of the storm, the advisory said.

Heavy rain and strong winds with gusts up to 55 m.p.h. are expected from around 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with the heaviest rain and wind conditions throughout the day, officials said.

Rain is expected to develop from south to north later in the morning on Monday, but winds will begin to increase overnight tonight ahead of the rain, forecasters predict.

According to the advisory, winds at the peak of the storm will be sustained to 20-30 m.p.h. with some 40-55 m.p.h. gusts at times, highest thru the morning and early afternoon.

Roadway and poor drainage flooding is still a high likelihood given totals of 1.5 - 2.25" in a relatively short period of time (even some embedded thunderstorms could enhance the rainfall locally), the advisory said.

The rain and wind are expected to calm sometime between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday night, according to the alert.

Emergency officials recommend residents secure all loose items in and around their properties and to prepare for the wind to take down trees and branches, causing power outages.

Residents can get up to the minute information on this website, or can follow police on Twitter @SoBrunswickPD, on Nixle, and the Township website http://www.twp.south-brunswick.nj.us/.
