SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – After dropping a close one Tuesday against the Old Bridge Knights, 11-10, the lady Vikings lacrosse team came back strong on Thursday, handing J.P. Stevens a blistering 23-2 defeat.

South Brunswick’s Lindsay Szucs, Amanda Palumbo and Briana Gonzales combined for 13 goals to lead the scoring onslaught with five for Szucs and four for both Palumbo and Gonzales.

Jill Grzelak, Shannen Sterner and Claudia Cohen all contributed two goals and Holly Konopka, Margaret Deak, Medha Gupta and Louisa Post-Zwicker all had a goal each during the match.

The Vikings held Stevens to only one goal in each half, while scoring 12 and 11 respectively, keeping Stevens on defense for most of the day.

Goalies Dakota Apicella had four saves and Lauren Bunch had one of the seven total shots taken by Stevens.

Stevens’ Harshita Jain had the only two scores and goalie Caesey Gama was able to block seven of the 36 Viking shots.

It was a very different match than Tuesday’s defeat against the always competitive Old Bridge Knights.

While South Brunswick continued to mount a balanced attack, with Grzelak and Palumbo scoring three goals apiece and single goals by Szucs, Gonzales, Sterner and Gupta, Old Bridge came back strong in the second half by outscoring the Vikings 8-5 for the win.

The Knights Lindsay Shafer led the attack with four goals, followed by Abby Zimmerlink and Julia Sandor with a pair each.

Old Bridge’s Emily Lopes, Janelle Harden and Lauren Farkas all put in single goals for the win.

South Brunswick improves to 6-2 on the season.
