Tamar Reaves, 18, aka "T-Mac," of Park Street, has been charged with first degree murder, second degree possession of a handgun without a permit, and second degree unlawful possession of a handgun, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

Reaves is being held in the Somerset County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.

Robertson provided the following details:

Franklin Township police received several 911 calls and responded to Battle Place shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday. They found the victim laying on the pavement, suffering from a gunshot wound. Police and an emergency medical team rendered medical assistance and transported the woman to a nearby hospital. Emergency life-saving measures were unsuccessful; Webb was pronounced dead at 8:29 a.m.

Franklin detectives assisted by Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office detectives interviewed witnesses and with an assist from New Brunswick police, identified Reaves as a suspect.

Webb had encountered Reaves near an area deli on Millstone Road at 7:50 a.m., according to Robertson.  Moments later, as she was walking back towards her Battle Place residence, Reaves approached and shot her, Robertson said.

Detectives have yet to establish a motive for the shooting, but say Reaves and Webb had a "prior history" and that Webb was the sole intended target, according to Robertson.

Immediately following the shooting, the suspect ran to a residence in New Brunswick; he was later seen near his own residence at 2:35 p.m. Police detained him for questioning while detectives obtained Superior Court search warrants, which  were executed at Reaves' Somerset residence and at the residence he entered in New Brunswick.

An autopsy was conducted Thursday morning by the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the neck.

Robertson asks that anyone with information regarding the incident contact the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit at (908) 231-7100, the Franklin Township Police Department (732) 873-5533 or the Somerset County Crime Stoppers’ Tip Line at 1-888-577-TIPS (8477) or online at www.888577tips.org or www.scpo.net and click on either “Crime Stoppers” or “TIPS HOTLINE”.
