SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Union Catholic is proud to partner with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark for a personal care item charity drive this fall. Donated items will be placed in tote bags, and these personal care kits will be distributed to individuals and families in need. The entire community is encouraged to participate, and items are being collected through September 27.
Mrs. Kathleen Sagendorf, a teacher at Union Catholic, has dedicated her time to help organize this drive, and she is firm in her commitment to servicing those in need.
"We are so excited to partner with Sharon Reilly-Tobin, Director of Volunteer Services at Catholic Charities, to fulfill this service initiative," said Sagendorf. "The idea of getting the UC community involved so early in the school year is a testament to UC's passion for social justice and service."
Mrs. Sagendorf went on to explain why personal care items are the focus of this drive.
"We decided to do a personal care item drive because that's where a great need is for these families. Most personal care items like shampoo, razors, and toothpaste are not covered by food stamps. The donations we provide give these individuals something for themselves and something to make their days better. We are accepting donations of all items, as well as monetary donations. All members of the community are encouraged to participate."
Union Catholic is collecting the following personal care items:
- Soap/shower gel
- Nail clippers
- Plastic spoons/forks/knives
- Shaving cream
- Hand sanitizer
- Feminine hygiene products
- Hand lotion
- Band aids
- Mitten, hats, and gloves
