Wardlaw+Hartridge Eighth Graders Engage in Lively Debates

EDISON, NJ - Eighth graders at The Wardlaw+Hartridge School in Edison enjoyed the opportunity to work together in teams and argue pros and cons of two different topics during formal debates on Jan. 31 in the Center for Global Learning.

The students used research, writing, collaboration and public speaking skills to deliver strong arguments and rebuttals on two issues: Confederate statues should be removed and placed in museums and Artificial Intelligence should be encouraged.

Four judges sat on a panel to determine each of the debates, which were moderated by Dr. Corinna Crafton, Middle School Head and English teacher.

The following students earned honorable mention for their performance in the debates: Ryan Brandl and Rose Kassam of Scotch Plains, Nick Ji of Edison, Kunal Patel of Edison, Jeni Lynn Vargas of Dunellen, Ananya Murlidharan of Edison, Shiv Tickoo of Scotch Plains and Esha Nalla of Edison.
