EDISON, NJ - Robin McCabe pitched a two hit shut out to lead the Watchung Hills softball team over J.P. Stevens in the North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 Tournament Semi-Finals, on Thursday, 5-0.

On offense, Sophia Chicchetti returned after being sidelined with a knee injury to smack a two out RBI single, Izzy DeFinis hit a two run double, Erin Bean slammed a solo homer, and Jade Singh added a RBI double for Watchung Hills.

“Just a great team win today,” said WHRHS assistant coach Jeff Dealaman. “It’s exciting to see the girls playing their best softball of the season here in the state tournament. We continue to follow the same formula that has led to our success throughout the season: good at-bats, clutch hits, good defense and Robin doing her thing. She was pretty unhittable today, only giving up 2 hits to a team that came into the game 20-4 is just really impressive.

There was an special energy coming into the game with Sophia Cicchetti being able to return to the lineup after being out with what seemed to be a season-ending knee injury. She’s worked really hard rehabbing and it was great to see her deliver a couple hits, including that huge RBI single in the 6th. Having her back for the rest of our state run gives our lineup a big boost.

We’re excitied to find out who we’ll be playing in the sectional final next Tuesday but for now we’re going to enjoy resting up over Memorial Day weekend.”

The Warriors will play either Millburn or North Hunterdon in Tuesday’s final.
