YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy Plans YMCA Day of Service and Remembrance

The YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge & South Amboy, Greater Middlesex County’s leading not-for-profit community service organization, will recognize the 2017 September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance by bringing YMCA staff and volunteers together with other civic groups to perform a service project in each of the three communities served by a YMCA membership facility - the towns of Metuchen, Edison, South Amboy.

The Metuchen YMCA will partner with the Metuchen Department of Public Works to spruce up the area around Metuchen’s Freedom Plaza. This project will take place on Friday, September 8 to have the Plaza ready for the September 11 Memorial Service.  The South Amboy YMCA, partnering with Operation Gratitude, is holding a collection drive for care box items to be sent to those who served to say thank you and in appreciation. The collection will take place in the lobby of the South Amboy YMCA from August 1 to September 11.  On September 11 the YMCA will host a station for those who wish to write a note or create a drawing to be included in the care packages. The Edison YMCA will be visiting the Menlo Park Veterans Home on September 11 to engage with veterans during the Trivia Town Square event at 10 am and lead the group’s exercise program from 11 AM to 12 PM.

The YMCA of MEWSA supports the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance not only because it uses the day to remind us of the spirit of patriotism and support which came out of the tragedy of 9/11, but also because the day offers the opportunity for the YMCA to bring people together to serve others. This spirit of volunteerism is what the YMCA was founded on over 160 years ago. The YMCA will encourage people to stay active in these communities well beyond the National Day of Service and Remembrance. As part of this ongoing commitment to serve, the YMCA of MEWSA calls on all Americans to find their passion for service and volunteer to contribute to the prosperity of their communities.
