Championship Robotics Team Hosting Open House for New Members

The High School Robotics team of Central Jersey, FIRST Robotics Competition Team 747 – Flight Crew, is a non-profit organization that provides a year-round activity for students age 13+ to participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition. The goal of FIRST is to inspire students to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) fields. Under the guidance of mentors, students design and build complex machines, learn business and marketing skills and, most importantly, work as a team. As a community-based team, the High School Robotics team of Central Jersey is able to include students from any local, middle and high schools, whether it is public, private or homeschool!

Each January, FIRST releases a new game. Teams have 6 weeks to design and build a robot to play that game. At each competition, randomly selected alliances of three teams work together to score points. Teams who score high enough qualify for the District and World Championships.

The 2018-2019 season was a huge success for Flight Crew! After winning the Montgomery District Event, the team advanced to the District Championship where they were crowned winners again! This win qualified the team for the World Championship in Detroit. In addition, the team received the Creativity Award and the Industrial Design Award.

While the design, construction and programming of the robot are central activities of the team, students learn important business skills as well. They meet with team sponsors, write business letters, maintain our team website and produce videos documenting our team’s activities.

We offer opportunities for students in many areas:

  • Mechanical Engineering & Design
  • Electrical Engineering & Design
  • Computer Programming
  • CAD Drawing
  • Accounting
  • Web Design
  • Business Networking
  • Public Speaking
  • Video Production
  • Social Media Marketing & Advertising
  • Community Service

Students learn soft skills like teamwork, working under pressure and time management. There are opportunities for travel and over $80 million in college scholarships!

The High School Robotics Team of Central Jersey will be hosting their final Open House at their location in Middlesex, next Wednesday, November 13 at 7:30pm. Interested students and parents are invited to attend to learn more about the team. Please visit the team website at www.frc747.com to register. We look forward to meeting you!
