New Jersey dance companies 78 Moves and ~mignolo dance~ announce Women’s Day Dance Festival in partnership with New Brunswick based nonprofit organization Women Aware and the Metuchen Arts Council.
The dance festival will take place on the evening of Saturday, March 7that St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Metuchen, New Jersey, and will showcase works of various female choreographers from the tri-state area. Host companies, 78 Movesand ~mignolo dance~,in partnership with the Metuchen Arts Council, seek to celebrate International Women’s Day with a series of performances by local female artists, using dance to highlight the female experience. A gift auction featuring local vendors will be held immediately following the showcase, of which 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Women Aware. A percentage of ticket sales will also be donated.
78 Moves’ Artistic Director and Choreographer Jade Salzano explains her inspiration for the event: “Unfortunately, domestic abuse is something that has affected the artists really close to us. Choreography is an emotional, healing outlet for me, so working with an organization that affects change for so many women in need is important, especially at this time.”
Both companies are female led, creating art surrounding topics like mental health and the female experience. The event will be held in support of the nonprofit Women Aware, which seeks to provide counseling, shelter, emergency hotlines, and advocacy programs to victims of domestic violence and abuse.
The dance performance begins at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7thin St. Luke’s Friar Hall, located at 17 Oak Avenue in Metuchen (corner of Middlesex & Oak Avenues). Tickets are available for $20 each at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/93399186481.
