Wardlaw-Hartridge Middle School Robotics Club Preps for Competition

EDISON, NJ - Robin Zhong of Edison, Faizah Naqvi of South Plainfield and Shiv Tickoo of Scotch Plains, Middle School Robotics Club members at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison, attended a Botball robotics workshop in New York City on March 4.

"The workshop is really important for new programmers in the Robotics Club, like me.  It gave us a lot of information about the competition and programming, such as creating functions, and using logical operators,” Zhong explained.

The workshop was in preparation for a competition in May. Seventh graders refined their programming skills and familiarized themselves with competition game rules.  They successfully programmed their robot to drive to a foam block and then, using a claw, pick it up and carry it back to the starting point.

“Personally, I feel that the workshop was an amazing experience. It really opened my knowledge to programming and coding,” Tickoo said.

"I really enjoyed the robotics workshop. I was able to take coding to another level.  For example, programming with variables was new to me. After learning this year's competition theme, agriculture, I am very excited to start working on a competition ready robot,” Naqvi said.
