Edison, NJ - The local Democratic party, the Edison Democratic Organization, announced the launch of the Edison Democratic Club. According to the organization, the club is open to residents interested in learning more about the political system and getting involved in the community.
The club’s kickoff event will be held today, April 9, at the Pines Manor in Edison. The event will start at 7:30 PM
Shariq Ahmad, the local Democratic party chair, said “the Democratic Club will allow anybody in the township who wants to get involved in the process and who wants to find a way to have their voice heard an opportunity to do so”.
According to the Organization, the club will conduct informal as well as formal sessions on how residents can get involved in town and take action on issues that matter to them. The club will also serve as a forum to interact with elected officials.
Edison Township has over 59,000 registered voters and only a fraction cast their ballots in most elections. One of the tasks of the club will be to increase voter turnout according to Mr. Ahmad.
The club is part of an ongoing effort by the local Democrats to build thier party and attract new voters. Last September, the organization launched the Edison Young Dems.
“Edison is a large town with three zip codes and political awareness created at this scale is bound to have an upwards cascading impact.” said Suchitra Kamath, the new Democratic Club president. “The town has great potential and we will be reaching out and tapping the general public at large to create awareness about having an active voice as well as get their support and contribution towards the county and state governance ,“ she added.
