Edison, NJ – The Metuchen-Edison NAACP announced that one of its members, Major Alvin L. Mallette NJ Air National Guard (Active), will be a recipient of the 2019 New Jersey NAACP Soldier of Valor Awards, presented by the NAACP New Jersey State Conference Armed Forces and Veterans’ Affairs Committee.
Major Mallette has been an active member of the Metuchen Edison Area Branch of the NAACP for over 14 years and has served as First Vice President, Community Outreach Chair and Education Chair. He is currently employed by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
“His strengths include his willingness to work with and serve others, accept responsibility and take risks in trying unfamiliar approaches. His commitment and tenacity make a difference in our society. Major Alvin L. Mallette is a superior choice for the NAACP NJ SC Soldier of Valor 2019 Award,” said Reginald Johnson, President of the Metuchen Edison NAACP.
Major Mallette enlisted in the New Jersey National Guard in 1998 as an Airman 1st Class. He was commissioned an Officer in 2010 through the Academy of Military Science at Maxwell, AFB in Montgomery, AL.
According to the organization, his military experience includes being federally mobilized in support of Operations NOBLE EAGLE (McGuire AFB, NJ/Andrews AFB, MD), ENDURING FREEDOM (Doha, Qatar 2002), IRAQI FREEDOM (2007-2008), and INHERENT RESOLVE (Doha, Qatar 2016-2017).
He is the recipient of over ten Military service awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
