Edison, NJ — Mayor Tom Lankey introduced Bob Smith as the new Director of the Edison Water Utility which will begin operation on January 1st 2020. Lankey also thanked members of the Water Utility Advisory Committee members who have met on a weekly basis since early October for contributing to its success; those members were Business Administrator Maureen Ruane, Melissa Perelistein, Council President Alvaro Gomez, Council Vice President Ajay Patil, Councilman Bob Diehl, Biral Patel, Tarendra Lakhankar along with Keith Hahn and Anthony DeAmorin who successfully spearheaded the referendum in September.

Bob Smith was well-prepared as he took questions from the public and assured Edison residents they were prepared to start operations on January 1st. Smith stated 15 employees had been hired and equipment has been purchased.

However, when resident Maria Orchid asked if there would be any rate increases Mayor Lankey came back to the microphone. “There will be no rate increase in January for customers serviced by the new utility and the Senior Rate Freeze will remain intact” Lankey said.
Councilman Len Sendelsky asked about water shut offs and was advised by Business Administrator Ruane there would be no shut offs. Existing bills would be addressed the same as current sewer bills with yearend tax sales.

With no rate increase in January and the Senior Rate Freeze intact it looks like a successful start for Bob Smith and the new Edison Water Utility.
