Edison Township Mayor Thomas Lankey today released the following statement praising Governor Murphy, as well as state, county and local officials, for their efforts in establishing a Field Medical Station (FMS) at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center.  The FMS will be used to treat patients who require medical care at the level of basic hospital care and will help expand the overall capability of the state’s hospital system.

It is also important to note that this is not a walk-in facility and that patients must meet criteria established by the New Jersey Department of Health and will be relayed to the site from the hospital.  The facility will be staffed by medical professionals, including medical personnel from the Department of Defense and the New Jersey National Guard.  Local labor was used to build the facility.

“On behalf of myself and the Township Council, we are all appreciative of the tremendous leadership Governor Murphy and his team have shown throughout this crisis and I would like to personally thank them as well as all of our state, county and local professionals that have worked so hard to help find solutions during this unprecedented crisis,” said Mayor Lankey.  “The Field Medical Station at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center will help provide some needed relief for our hospital system and for our heroic healthcare professionals.  So many people have sacrificed on the frontlines, including our police and fire, our teachers, our grocery store workers and our doctors, nurses and hospital workers and so many others and we will continue to stand with them to help serve Edison residents as we fight this awful pandemic.”

Lankey continued, “I would ask that everyone continue following the recommended protocols to keep yourselves and your friends and neighbors safe.  Working as a community and taking the proper precautions will help lessen the time we have to self-isolate and, more importantly, will help save lives.  We are all in this together.”
