Edison, NJ – The continuation of Edison’s public meeting on the proposed lease of the township’s water and sewer systems to Suez is scheduled for June 6, 2019.  The meeting will resume at the Council Chambers in the Municipal Building located at 100 Municipal Blvd, Edison.  The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, the petition drive to allow Edison voters to decide whether the Township should retain public ownership of its water and sewer systems is nearing completion.  With petitioners collecting signatures for a final weekend, organizers of the petition drive anticipate delivering the completed petitions on Monday.

Local residents and community activists will announce that they have collected over 3,500 petitions triggering a public vote on the controversial water privatization deal, according to Food and Water Watch.  The group plans on holding a press conference at 9:30 a.m at the Municipal Bulding prior to delivering the petitions. 

The proposed 40 year agreement with Suez has been on file with the Edison Township Clerk since March 14, 2019 and can be inspected at the offices of the Township Clerk, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building.
