Earlier this month, a member of the Edison SJ Green Team attended the 2019 Jersey Waterworks Conference. The event was presented at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick on Friday, December 13, 2019. The registration fee to attend the event was paid from a Green Team grant received earlier this year from the Sustainable Jersey PSE&G Foundation.
More than twenty-five distinguished speakers participated in ten water-focused presentations throughout the day, including three break-out sessions following lunch and networking. A number of presenters from related organizations, agencies and businesses distributed literature and information as to state and national water issues, advocacy, products and services.
Of particular interest to the Edison SJ Green Team was the break-out session: No Longer Optional: NJDEP’s New Green Infrastructure Requirements, as the Township had recently been awarded a grant from the NJDEP Rutgers University 319H Green Infrastructure Program. The grant shall be combined with other previous awards (Middlesex County Open Space Trust Fund; Investors Foundation; Edison Greenways Group) to develop a pervious ADA parking lot in Dudash Park.
Upon completion, the Green Infrastructure Project shall afford greater access to the adjacent the Middlesex Greenway by physically challenged individuals. It shall also represent the Township’s first Green Infrastructure project, as well as the only designated, fully-paved parking lot along the Edison section of the Middlesex Greenway, which receives up to 60,000 visitors annually.
Water-related information obtained at the 2019 Jersey Waterworks Conference was shared with members of the Edison Green Team, as well as other environmentally-focused organizations throughout the Township (Edison Township Environmental Commission; Edison Open Space Advisory Committee; ESJGT/SENSE; Edison Greenways Group).
