EDISON – (Sept. 4, 2019) – A Colonia man faces charges for driving under the influence after police say he crashed his car through the front window of a Verizon store at Inman Grove Shopping Center.

Driver James P. Durek, 68, told police his foot slipped off the brake peddle and hit the gas after he stopped in a parking space outside the Verizon store at 10:30 a.m. Sunday to eat Taco Bell takeout food, police said.

As a result, the driver’s leased Lexus RX drove through the closed, unoccupied store’s front windows, police said.

Officer Jonathan Kole took Durek into custody after reportedly smelling alcohol on the driver. A subsequent breathalyzer test caused police to arrest the driver for DUI and other motor vehicle charges related to the accident.
