EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Two victims were lured to Crosspointe last night when they tried to sell two pair of sneakers on Facebook and were robbed and chased at gunpoint.
On Monday, May 15, 2017 at 5:27 pm, patrol units responded to the Crosspointe Condominium Development on a report of an armed robbery. The victims advised responding patrol officers that they were contacted by an individual via Facebook who wanted to buy two pairs of sneakers from the victims. The individual advised the victims to meet him in the area of Crosspointe Drive. Upon arriving at Crosspointe Drive, the victims met 2 individuals and let them inspect the sneakers.
At this time, the sneakers were taken from the victims and the suspects fled on foot through the complex. While chasing the individuals, the victims were confronted by 3 additional individuals, 2 of whom pointed both a black semi-automatic handgun at the victim, as well as another weapon, which was described as a black long gun. A witness informed patrol that they observed a group of males running towards a residence in the development, which the witness recognized to be one of the suspect’s addresses.
Subsequent investigation by the responding patrol officers and the Investigative Division led to the arrests of 6 individuals, 5 of whom are juveniles. The juveniles and the adult, Altareik Johnson-Taylor, 19, of South River, were charged with Robbery. Two juveniles were also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of Weapon for Unlawful Purpose. The juveniles were remanded to the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center and Johnson-Taylor was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center in lieu of a bail hearing.
Property belonging to the victims was recovered, as was a black pump action imitation shotgun during the investigation.
