East Brunswick School Board Member Arrested on Prostitution Charges

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Robert Cancro, 66, a member of the East Brunswick Board of Education, was one of numerous men arrested and charged with engaging in prostitution as part of an ongoing investigation by the Hazlet Police of a location on Route 36. 

Cancro was elected to the Board last year.  He has served as a teacher and an administrator for many years and is currently a Clinical Practice Supervisor of student teachers for Monmouth University.  According to official sources, he submitted his resignation from the board today.

According to Deputy Chief Ted Wittke of the Hazlet Police Department, an investigation into prostitution at the New Look Spa was initiated in January 2018 after police received information that illegal acts were occurring at that location.

During the investigation on 2/16/18,  Robert Cancro from East Brunswick was arrested and charged with engaging in prostitution. On 2/27/18, a 26 year-old-male from Old Bridge and a 46 year-old-male from Keyport were arrested and charged with engaging in prostitution. All were released on a criminal summons.

On March 15, 2018, the Hazlet Police Detective Bureau executed a criminal search warrant at the spa, arresting an employee, Mei Shu Jin. Jin was charged with prostitution and released on her own recognizance.

The Monmouth County Board of Health also responded and are still investigating potential health code violations. The agency is in the process of taking steps to revoke the business license as well.

The East Brunswick Board of Education will take action regarding this news at their upcoming meeting on Thursday, April 26.  The acceptance of Cancro's resignation is on the agenda.

Cancro's departure will create an opening on the school board that may result in new candidates running for election this November.
