SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Scotch Plains police Sgt. Brad Belford was injured in a crash following a pursuit this weekend, police said.
Just before midnight on Saturday, Belford attempted to stop a 2012 four-door dr Porsche, which fled, police said. A pursuit was initiated, and the suspect vehicle went along Route 22 Westbound into Greenbrook before turning around and heading back towards Scotch Plains, according to the SPPD police blotter.
Sgt. Belford’s vehicle and the suspect vehicle were then involved in an accident on Route 22 East at the intersection of Terrill Rd. in Watchung, police said. Two suspects were detained at the scene and were transported to the hospital with complaints of pain, police said. Both were released after being medically cleared, police said.
Sgt. Belford was also transported to the hospital for observation and released, police said.
The operator of the vehicle Andreas K. Dions, age 25, of 739 Penfield St. in the Bronx, NY, was charged with eluding and resisting arrest and transported to the Union County Jail.
