EDISON, NJ - According to Edison police, a 61-year-old man had both legs broken earlier today after he was hit by a car while trying to cross busy Route 1, just south of Townsley Street, police said.
The victim, a guest at Lee’s Motel on Route 1, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick to be treated for his injuries after the 11 am accident, police said.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim and stated that the accident is still being investigated.
Patrolman Michael Winters, who investigated the accident, issued a summon to the injured man for failing to observe designated crosswalks.
Witnesses told police the victim allegedly climbed over a center divider on Route 1 while trying to cross from the south-to northbound lanes, Lt. Robert Dudash explained.
A 64-year-old Edison motorist, whose vehicle struck the man, was upset, but uninjured. He has not been charged, Dudash said. The accident remains under investigation.
