Edison, NJ – School officials said that there is no credible threat after multiple students received a threatening email directed at John P. Stevens High School.
“This morning some of our students received a threatening email directed at JP Stevens. We are dealing with this threat and taking it seriously. The police have been informed and we are working closely with them. It is believed that this is a hoax. However, in situations like this we take every measure necessary to protect our students and school community,” said Anthony Shallop, Principal at John P. Stevens High School in a statement.
The threatening email in question was sent with the subject line: “I’m Shooting Up JP Stevens”. It was sent at approximately 4:45 am. It is unclear how many students received the email and whether the students who recieved the email were targeted.
“It is an on-going investigation. Our school is safe and Edison Police are on top of it. Regardless of who the sender is, we will take all necessary action. Zero tolerance.” said Edison School Board President Jerry Shi.
School officials said that there is heightened security and heightened awareness at all District schools and that all schools are operating on normal schedules.
