Edison, NJ –  Commuters at the Edison train station and Metro Park experienced significant delays this morning after a car drove under the platform at the Edison station and blocked one of the tracks. 

According to Deputy Fire Chief Andy Toth, the accident which took place at approximately 7 a.m., occurred after a motorist dropped off a passenger in the Edison Train Station parking lot.

The driver told first-responders that his vehicle accelerated abruptly as he hit the gas pedal while making a turn to leave the parking lot, Toth confirmed.

The driver’s car careened through a chain-link fence and ended up under the station’s platform where it got wedged, protruding on the tracks. The driver was visibly shaken, but uninjured, Toth said.

Edison firefighters, police and EMTs responded to the accident scene to assist NJ Transit Police, said Toth, who serves as the township’s Emergency Management Coordinator.
