Edison, NJ – Deputy Chief Andrew Toth, from Edison’s Office of Emergency Management reminded Edison residents to stay safe as temperatures increase and a heat advisory went into effect on Wednesday, with temperatures predicted to reach 100 degrees on Saturday.

During times of extreme weather conditions, such as extended periods of heat and humidity,  Edison Township opens cooling centers.

For immediate relief from the heat, residents are being directed to any municipal building, which can be used during regular business hours.

Cooling Centers identified by the Township include:

Minnie B. Veal Community Center, located at 1070 Grove Avenue

Edison Municipal Complex, located at 100 Municipal Boulevard

Main Library, located at 340 Plainfield Avenue  

Clara Barton Library, located at 141 Hoover & Pleasant Avenue

North Edison Branch Library, located at 777 Grove Avenue   

Menlo Park Mall, located at 55 Parsonage Road

Additionally, the Edison Senior Citizen Center, located 2963 Woodbridge Avenue,  will be open:

Wednesday 7/17 until 9:00 p.m.

Thursday 7/18 until 4:00 p.m.

Friday 7/19 until 9:00 p.m.

Saturday 7/20 & Sunday 7/21 from 9:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m.

The Office of Emergency Management is also reminding residents to drink plenty of fluids and stay indoors during the hottest part of the day.
