SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Today’s GMC White Division game between South Plainfield and Bishop Ahr was an early season gauge. It featured two of the top pitchers in the County with Bishop Ahr’s hard throwing Katie Eicher and South Plainfield’s four year ace Katherine Vill. The difference in the game could come down to one big hit or one big inning, and today South Plainfield got both, as the Tigers  received a bases loaded single from third baseman Jill Holoboski in a four run third inning en-route to a 5-1 win over Bishop Ahr.

The game was a pitchers dual until the bottom of the third inning. Angela Sanchez started the four run rally for the Tigers with a leadoff infield single. A walk to Caity Hughes and a humpback single to right by Jennifer Grasso loaded the bases. Holoboski singled to left-center to score both Sanchez and Hughes. A dropped third strike allowed Grasso to score on a passed ball, and a sac fly scored Holoboski. The 4-0 lead would be all South Plainfield would need as South Plainfield senior Katherine Vill was in complete command. The veteran righty was ahead on most counts and hit her spots. Vill allowed just one run on one hit while walking two.

“Vill pitched a great game, and we got some excellent defensive play in the outfield,” said South Plainfield Head Coach Don Panzarella. “If we are going to beat the good teams, we need to have timely hitting up and down the lineup and we got that today. I was impressed, the girls did a great job.”
