UNION, NJ – An Elizabeth Fire Department ambulance caught fire while on Morris Avenue at the Johnson Place intersection Thursday evening.
The ambulance was on route to Elizabeth after dropping a patient at Overlook Hospital in Summit. The fire was extinguished by Union firefighters with no reported injuries. The driver and passenger of the ambulance exited when the fire began.
As of 10:00 p.m., Union police have Morris Avenue, from Johnson Place to Stuyvesant Avenue, closed because of icing conditions. They are awaiting a salt truck from the State Department of Transportation.
