Elizabeth, NJ – Oct. 17, 2019 – A variety of inclusive multidisciplinary arts programs offered by Community Access Unlimited (CAU) will be supported in part by a grant of $5,000 from the Investors Foundation.

A musical, cabaret show, collaborative concert with Kean University and other performing arts events offer creative opportunities to the people CAU serves and friends in the community each year. Courses at the Academy for Continuing Education include jewelry and craft making, fine arts, musical expression, theatre and more to help people with disabilities express themselves and reach their fullest academic potential. The agency also provides outings engaging with the arts.

CAU is a Union County-based, statewide nonprofit that strives to integrate people with disabilities and at-risk youth into the general community through comprehensive supports.

“We thank the Investors Foundation for this grant, which will impact the creative engagement of our members as they build skills in the arts,” said CAU Executive Director Bernadette Griswold

CAU’s arts program is more than 14 years old, and theater arts were introduced in 2012 with a pilot production of Seussical the Musical. The production was open to the general community and quickly grew into a troupe of more than 60 performers and crew members (with and without disabilities) known today as the CAU Community Players. The musical is a major event each spring, and is expected to draw about 1,000 spectators in 2020. Yearly, roughly 125 people with disabilities participate in the multidisciplinary arts at CAU.

“Arts programs are critically important to the health and well-being of communities,” said Investors Bank Chairman and CEO Kevin Cummings. “Investors Bank is proud to support Community Access Unlimited in its efforts to ensure people with disabilities and at-risk youth have a creative voice.”
