ELIZABETH, NJ - Authorities released a sketch of a person of interest in the death of a 33-year-old city man who police say was found shot in his driveway last month.

Ricardo Nieto was found shot on July 16 around 2:50 a.m. after Elizabeth police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Niles Street and Fifth Avenue, authorities said. Nieto was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office today released the New Jersey State Police’s sketch and re-released video footage of a vehicle possibly involved in the death of Nieto.

The sketch shows a young, clean shaven male with short dark hair. On July 25, authorities first released video of the suspect vehicle and described it as a light-colored, two-door car with a sunroof, possibly with out-of-state license plates.

The car can be seen in the video traveling in opposite directions on Niles Street near Fifth Avenue about two minutes apart a little after 9 p.m. on July 15. That car is believed to have remained in the neighborhood right up until the time of the shooting nearly six hours later, authorities said.

The Union County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case, authorities said. Anonymous tips can be sent by phone at 908-654-TIPS (8477) or via text message by texting “UCTIP” plus a message to 274637 (CRIMES). Tips can also be sent online at www.uctip.org.

The incident is under investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, Elizabeth Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office Identification Unit and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit.

Anyone with information about this matter should contact Homicide Task Force Detective Richard Acosta at 908-347-0404 or Detective Sofia Santos at 908-577-4256.
