Award Offered for Information in Plainfield Man's Homicide Investigation

PLAINFIELD, NJ - Union County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest in the fatal shooting of a Plainfield man.

The fatal shooting is under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Saturday. The victim has been identified as 19-year-old William Coles.

Plainfield Police Division patrol units responding to a report of shots being fired on the 100 block of Plainfield Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m. Saturday found Coles, who had sustained injuries from gunfire. He was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead approximately an hour later.

The shooting is under active joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit, and Union County Sheriff’s Office Identification Unit.

Anyone with information about the death of Coles is being urged to contact Homicide Task Force Detective Brendan Sullivan at 908-966-0999.

The Union County Crime Stoppers also are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case; tips can be given anonymously by phone at 908-654- TIPS (8477), via text message by texting
