CLARK, NJ— A man who threatened people with a machete-type knife was hospitalized Tuesday night after he was shot by Clark police, according to Mayor Sal Bonaccorso.
The man, a resident of the Hillcrest Apartments, went after a female citizen with the knife, Bonaccorso said. Three other men saw it and tried to intervene, he said.
When Clark police officers arrived, an altercation took place between the man and the officer, who discharged his weapon, the mayor said. The Clark police officer was not injured, and the man was transported to UMDNJ Hospital, he said.
Bonaccorso said that the suspect is alive, but no further details are available about his condition.
“The town is safe,” Mayor Bonaccorso said. “Clark police department once again did an outstanding job protecting the citizens of Clark.”
