ELIZABETH, NJ – The Wells Fargo Bank on Broad Street was the scene of an attempted robbery this morning at approximately 11:25, Thursday, September 3.
An unnamed, 65-year-old Roselle resident was arrested after the suspect jumped the counter and the safety glass to get at the bank drawers. Police were notified after an employee fled the bank and alerted authorities. Elizabeth and County police were called in along with officers from the Sheriff’s Office.
No one was hurt, and the suspect was unharmed. Prior reports of gunshots and multiple suspects have not been confirmed.
The bank closed for the reminder of the day, but will be open tomorrow.
